Goat keeping is
an enterprise typically associated with ranching, stock raising or animal
husbandry. Practiced in the majority of all human societies, goat rearing is
all the more beneficial than domesticating larger animals. Goats are bred as multipurpose
animals, primarily for milk, meat and skin.
Originated from
India, Osmanabadi goats are mainly found in Ahamednagar, Sholapur, Osmanabad,
Latur, Parbhani and other surrounding areas of Maharashtra. In Maharashtra,
Osmanabadi goat farming is very common. The other states where these goats are
bred today include Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. These states are
considered to have a good population of Osmanabadi goats. Suitable for stall
feeding, semi-stall feeding and open grazing farms, these goats can adapt to
different climatic conditions. Their rearing cost is lower as they can survive
on grass, fodder, shrubs, vegetables, kitchen waste, pulp of pulses and crop
waste. Moreover, they can be bred in harsh environments with low fertility
lands. The type of fodder you feed your animals does affect their productivity.
But, Osmanabadi goats are an exception to this. They feature excellent
productive capacity and can produce 1 to 2 liter of milk a day. If you are

goats however vary, 80% of their coat is black and the rest 20 % may be white,
brown or spotted. Almost 85 percent of these goats are horned; the females may
be either horned or poled. At maturity, they can grow up to 68 cms. With a
chest girth of 70 cms, healthy Osmanabadi goats can weigh from 30 to 34 Kg.

if a female goat weighs 30 kg, its approximate price would be 30x200 = 6000. A male
